Motivation Monday- 5 Tips in Discovering Happiness

I still can not believe it's already 2011- I have been thinking about all of the accomplishments, lessons learned, and my direction.  Ultimately am I happier? I am! In discussing happiness and pursuing it, the moral of the story is that I had it all along.
5 easy things that you can do to be happier!
1.  Make your bed.  Sounds easy right? Isn't it the greatest to sleep in a made bed?  Why not treat yourself and make your bed and have a cozy nights sleep? You deserve it.  Over Christmas we treated ourselves to new pillows for our bed and granted it was only $10, but it felt like sleeping on a cloud.  Sleeping is your time to recharge your batteries and to have a fresh start the next day.
2.  Do something nice for a stranger.  One of my favorite things to do when I am in the city or in a new city, is to offer and take a picture for someone so that their whole group can be in the picture.  I can't tell you how many times I offered to do this for random strangers in Europe and all over the United States.  Number 1 it gives you that fuzzy feeling you are doing something nice and they are going to have that  snapshot forever and you did that!
3.  Pencil in a date for yourself.  Get out of the house and do something with you and your thoughts.   I go to the free day at the art museum and I go by myself so that I can really just enjoy and go at my own pace and mingle with the paintings.  :) Then I treat myself to a delicious coffee and maybe roam around a large book store.  I love a big bookstore because you can just get lost.  Allow yourself to enjoy your own company.
4.  Send a piece of snail mail.  I can't tell you how gratifying it feels to send a funny postcard or card to a friend/family/client with just checking in to see how they are doing.  I send out a card every few weeks to someone that I haven't talked to in awhile and am wanting to catch up with.  Snail mail makes that person feel like you went out of your way to do something nice for them and if your limited on time- its a quick way to check in.
5.  Smile!  Going in having a good attitude, can turn around most situations and make something even enjoyable.  It's the power of positive thinking.

I'm not sure if making my bed makes me happy...but I will admit I am bit of a neat freak...your other tips are right on! I particularly like the snail mail idea...we all need to do this more....I started sending "mail art" out last year and hope to continue doing this. Would you like to be added to my list?

Thanks for the positive note! I'll definitely do more nice things for strangers- I always appreciate when they lend me a helping hand so I should do the same.

All good tips! Most days I don't make my bed but when I do, it makes me feel like the day is full of opportunities. I also take a day for myself from time to time. Mostly to eat and explore Portland. Offering to take pictures of strangers is something I like doing too.
