My name is Erika. I'm in love with making art, collecting old things & chasing after my two kiddos. This blog is a peek into my happy accidents & plots of total world domination.

My Top 10 Goals for Summer

I wanted to share my summer goal list which does include a few things that I will be working on and some adventure related goals. :)
1.  I am curating an art show coming in August with one my best artsy gal pals and I are going to be posting a call for artists in the near future on this blog! So if you are a Portland artist or somewhere close- this is for you.  Stay tuned- my lips are sealed on the rest of the details.
2.  Paint everyday.! Also paint what I am loving and not just work on my body work.  I am working on more vintage still life oil paintings that I am mega in love with.  I also want to take more chances with my oil painting.
3.  Plant a couple of plants and protect them from my fur babies. Every time I plant anything they love running over to it and destroying it. I also am not the greatest at watering.. but so far all the plants I have planted look like they are surviving.
4.  Learn how to screen print.  I have been practicing!
5.  Organize a plein air (outdoor painting) outing to Sauvie's Island... which is by the nude beach.. Don't worry we won't be doing that kind of painting.  They have amazing farms with the yummiest marionberries around (no pun intended).
6.  Take more pictures with me in them.  I have been trying to put myself more in pics because I am really camera shy.  I have recently discovered the timer on my camera! My husband and dogs on the other hand love having their pictures taken- I am in a house of divas.
7.  Take lots of road trips! We are off to a good start so far this summer but I have been mapping out lots more.  We want to do lots of hiking and biking.. so then we don't have to feel to guilty from smore and pie eating contest related actives.
8.  Plan a party- My theme.. it's still up in the air but I am leaning towards a Beer and Cake Party. Who doesn't love both of those things?  In case you were worried no I will not be attempting to bake the cake.. we don't want any accidents or fire alarms happening.
9.  Vintage hunting- I am on the look out for a few vintage related things..  I can't wait to show you some of the things I have picked up over the last couple of weeks.  I also have be scouring Portland for a vintage fan... no luck but maybe if I put it on my list it will come to me magically.
10.  Read a book a week. I know this may seem aggressive but since I am trying to give up television.  I can totally do this right?
Of course they both had to get in the picture.  What fun summer goals are you planning?!

These are really fantastic! I'm still working on my overall 2011 goals (which I'm partially failing). I'd like to get back into my drawing/painting this summer and of course take road trips.

Also, I kind of want to take a photo like the one you posted with my dog to show you the contrast. He would probably have to hold me, though. :)

Sounds ambitious! I'm inspired to make my own list. We're so much more likely to do things when we have a list to refer to. Mostly because I love that pen strike across that to-do item!

Can I attend the beer and cake party? Sounds right up my alley!

I love this idea. I really need to set a list of goals myself. I have a lot to accomplish, and I don't want to get off track!

you look great in all of your photos - you are so pretty and shouldn't be shy. your list is stellar. the plants really do need some water and food just like you do. our garden is three blocks away, so it can really be a challenge to water it. have fun with your vintage hunting and make your choices wisely. you don't want to end up with a lot of stuff that could become a burden later on. trust me on this one.

i don't really have a list, which makes me feel like a slacker. i think i should give it some thought. if i could accomplish three tangible things this summer it would be good. i could really use an online portfolio for my photos. maybe, i'll start there?

What a delightful list of summer goals! I hope you have lots of great adventures in pursuing them.

For me, I'm thinking: bake something with rhubarb, go to the library regularly, and join a social club once I move to Pittsburgh.

That's a lot to get done for the summer, but I have a feeling you'll be able to accomplish all of them!

What a great list! What a great way to spend the summer!!! I'm may copying a bunch of your ideas!!

I've been really loving learning how to use my iphone4 camera and what seems the hundreds of apps I've bought for's been giving me a new take on photography. I'll be posting some of my newest pics soon!

I think it's great that you're including yourself in more photos ... you're so photogenic Erika! I'm a shy bunny when it comes to photos too, but I will work on changing that soon. :)

I love your summer goals ... learning how to do some screen-printing is on my list of things to do as well. As for your beer and cake party - well, that sounds amazing! :)

How are those summer goals going? I love reading but it seems the older I get the less time I get to sit down and read so now I do the audio book thing. It's not the same as having that book in your hands but you still get to enjoy the story. said...

Very interesting thanks. I believe there's even more that could be on there! keep it up
