Need: Where The Wild Things Are

I've been lately obsessing over animal print or things with animals on them. :)   I have the shopping bug right now- I think it has something to do with Christmas being right around the corner.  Isn't the lion door stop the greatest? I didn't know they even still made doorstops but I some how need it. lol

What are you up to this weekend? Tim is headed out of town and I am holding down the fort with the pugs and baby.  I think we may cozy up on the couch, pop some popcorn and watch some sort of movie marathon.

Things making me smile.

Oh Winston- the official snuggler in the house.  If anyone comes to visit- Winston requires immediate cuddles and loves- or he pouts.  He also loves to be held like a baby :)
My last painting palette. I always think there is something special about palettes, maybe almost magical.  I think they show how much of everything went into a painting.
My daughter :) and her giraffe.  It squeaks when she bites it and makes her laugh and kick her legs every time!
This dandy wooden eye glass holder- at least I think it's an eye glass holder. Makes me smile every time I put my glasses on his nose.
Voodoo Doughnuts is a place in town that makes really unusual donuts and they are delicious.  Every time I walk by this sign it always brings a smile to my face.  Their captain crunch donut is my fav!

What's making you smile today?

Pregnancy Survival Guide

I had a really tough pregnancy.  I was pretty miserable.. actually really miserable.  Anyone who has an easy pregnancy I am totally jealous of because mine was so hard.. at least hard for me.  I was sick all the time, no energy what so ever and I didn't leave a 2 mile radius of my home- friends/family had to come to me, I attempted to make art, but pretty much I was stuck in bed all day cuddled up with my pugs.  On the other hand my pugs loved me being pregnant- they got 10x as much snuggles and they loved cuddling my belly.  Looking back on my pregnancy here are some of the ways I survived... barely lol.

Have a milkshake.  I think I had a milkshake a day in the last part of the pregnancy.  Milkshakes go down faster than just plan ice cream.  A sweet treat always lifted my spirits, even if my spirits were lifted I would still go get a milkshake :). There is a Krispie Creme about a 2 minute drive from my house- so I would get a milkshake with 2 donuts.  Now I am thinking about milkshakes. Yum!

Go get a cheap pedicure.  I went about once a week to get my puffy feet massaged and toenails bedazzeled.  It was my treat to myself for feeling so frumpty dumpty.  I loved getting a little beauty time and I was mostly in flip flops anyway since I couldn't fit into most of my shoes.  I had different friends come and visit and we would go and get our toes done.  It was a great way to get out of the house.

Take a nap.  When doesn't a snooze sound amazing?

Remember you are not alone.  I think at least for me, pregnancy was a little on the lonely side. I think it's because I was going through all the hormones and starting a new chapter, it's a little over whelming and especially in your first pregnancy I wasn't sure if everything I was experiencing was normal.  Well as long as your not in pain- it's all normal. People don't talk about the yucky side of pregnancy but it's all normal and just part of the lumps of pregnancy.

I think most of these types could apply to you even if you weren't pregnant.  I think the most important thing that when your pregnant you need to do whatever it takes to feel good!

5 Easy Photography Tips!

The main reason why I originally bought a fancy camera was because I wanted to take pictures of my paintings but now my camera is so much more than that.  My camera doesn't just capture my paintings, but captures all of life's little moments.  So here are a few easy tips that I have learned along the way to help improve my pictures.
1.  Get in there!  Don't be afraid to crouch down or get on eye level to take that amazing picture.  If you  take a close pictures it makes the photo feel more intimate and personal.
2.  Natural Light.  No flash!  If your taking a photo especially indoors- try and take the photo during the day and open your curtains and let the light in! It's an easy way to brighten up your photos with out doing much work.
3.  Background Noise.  If your taking a photo of your kitchen you may want to tidy up a little bit- I know I don't want to think about that big pile of dishes in the background instead of what the subject of the photo is.  Sometimes when I am snapping photos for items that I am selling I will put it on white poster board- it's an easy way for the point of the photo to be about the item versus what's going on around it.
4. Steady...! I know I don't have the most steady hands when I need them to be steady.  An easy way to get steadier pictures is use a tri-pod. I think the tri-pod I purchased was about 15 bucks.
5.  Take lots of pictures.  As an artist I am always looking and watching for inspiration.  My paintings typically come from photos that I have taken and I always snap a photo so I can remember what I saw.  I also love capturing the accidental moments and end up taking a ton of photos! When in doubt take more than 1 photo- you never know when you are going to capture that magic.

The Weekend!

This weekend I think Tim and I are going to take a relaxing weekend and put on our fuzzy slippers and hang out around the house.  I have been painting in the studio all week- and hopefully will have some new work to show you soon! Since we both have been so busy that one of our favorite things to do on the weekends is to make a big breakfast and hang out with Nora until it's time for her morning nap.  Life is so rough for a 4 month old- :).  We introduced rice cereal this week and she did not like the spoon.  It makes me laugh just thinking about it.  She did stick her tongue in the spoon- so that a good start.
What are you up to this weekend?

Let's Talk Politics

Typically I don't talk much about politics or religion... They are touchy subjects and in my opinion a personal thing and I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion and point of view.  I also view my blog as a journal and voice of sorts- documenting my art journey, the brush strokes of my life, and things that inspire me.  I love being able to look back at my digital foot print to see how far I have come and where I want to go.

Last night we had the our election and that it's amazing that come election day things can change what seems like overnight and I as a person have the power to vote.  A couple of things that happened last night for the first time in US history, women will hold 20 seats in our Senate which includes the first Asian-American women, first openly lesbian women and first disabled woman.

Last night it passed in Puerto Rico- that Puerto Rico will become the 51st state of the United States.  PR is currently a US common wealth- and my mom is born and raised in Puerto Rico.  I told my mom this morning that it finally passed- PR is going to become part of the United States- and she laughed and said I will call your aunt and see what she thinks.  PR has been up for statehood nearly every election for as long as I can remember but last night that all changed.

November Goals

I love making lists and I have gotten into the habit of making a goal list once a month.  I feel like it's important to not just have a goal but even more important to say them out loud.  Then the best part of making a list is crossing that goal off your list :)  Here is my list for November.
1.  Read at least 2 books.  I love to read!  My favorite is to cuddle up on the coach with the pugs and nice big cup of warm tea and just plain read! But since having a baby and attempting to get caught up on my painting- my reading has taken the back seat.  I have a stack of books, next to my night stand just waiting for me to read them.
2.  Go thrifting!  I have not been thrifting in forever.  When I was pregnant I was pretty miserable and now the baby can fit in one of those baby backpacks which makes shopping a lot easier.  I have the thrifting fever and can not wait to go treasure hunting.
3.  Take my SLR camera everywhere! I am a victim of using my iphone a lot but this month I want to take my big camera.  I bought a camera insert for purse- so that I will not have an excuse not to take my camera around. I also think it's sort of funny I call my SLR camera, my big camera- almost like the that's the camera's name.
4.  Paint My goal every month.  My love for painting but I really need to paint and paint and paint and paint.  I have soo many things I need to make paintings for.. Ack! I can do it! I know I can!
5.  Teach Nora to change her own diapers. :) I thought most babies could do this?
6.  Go on a artist date.  An artist date can be anything that involves art- but it's about making the effort of having more art in my life and leaving my house.  Can you tell I don't get out much since having a baby?

Pancakes and a Party!

Over the weekend, I went to the Pacific Northwest Blogger holiday party and I had such a great time!  I met so many funny and nice people- that I can't wait to start reading all of their blogs.  The party was held at West Elm, which I just love.  There was about 75 people or so and the room was packed full.  I was surprised that there were so many people and such a wide variety of blogs.  There were treats and prizes- which I won a gift card to Gelaskins,  Woohoo! I can't wait to make my own I-phone case!  I went home inspired to blog more and got lots of blogging tips that I can't wait to try.  Such a great sparkling night.

Sunday, Tim took me out for pancakes hence the photo of the coconut macadamia nut deliciousness or what Tim calls food porn :).  Did you have a fun weekend?

Hello November!

Happy November! The rains have started here which means in typical Portland fashion it rains until June.  I am really excited for this weekend because it's the Pacific NW Blogger Holiday Party, hosted by The Paper Mama.  Tim is going to be watching the baby and am looking forward to putting on some make up and getting out of the house! :) I'm looking forward to meeting some new friends and seeing some old ones.  What are you up to this weekend?

PS.  Nora is so obsessed with my scarf- She talks to it and then tries to stuff it in her mouth.
