Eat Portland: Tasty 'n Sons

On the weekends in Portland the big thing to do is going to brunch and there are some really amazing brunch places and one of our favorite is Tasty 'n Sons.  It's nestled in the Mississippi area of Portland and there is always a huge line to get in.  Their food is based on local fresh ingredients and the menu changes seasonally and based on food inspiration.  On a good day and if you go early the wait time is around 30-45 minutes, but is it worth waiting? yes.  How do you start every brunch?.. with cocktails of course! They have a delicious Bloody Mary and champagne coated cocktail selection- my husband favorite is the Midwesterner which is a Bloody Mary that includes a beer back.
Everything on the menu is pretty delicious but some of my favorites are the breakfast board, croque madame, and the burger.  I have not tried a thing I didn't like and it's not the most kid friendly restaurant because of the size and they cram as many people as they can into the space... but the staff is extremely nice and try to be extremely accommodating.   If you are visiting Portland on a budget their happy hour is a shortened version of the brunch menu with all of their brunch favorites.

Portland Series: I am born and raised in the ever beautiful and completely strange Portland, Oregon.  I get emails from readers coming to visit Portland and they all want to know "Where are the best places to stay, eat, drink and be merry!" I decided to start this series- all about Portland.

What I Wore: For the Birds.

Shoes: Ross
Necklace: from my husband- a good luck gift from when we first got married. Everyone needs a little bit of luck, right?

I have always wanted to do one of these outfit posts- but I have always been a little afraid about being in front of the camera.  Silly I know- but when the camera comes out and it looks at me- I freeze! I would love to break my scaredy cat habit.

This has been one of my favorite outfits post baby.  Post baby- I still am wearing some maternity cloths.. partly out of comfort but I'm ready to pile all my maternity cloths in a box and close the lid.  Having a baby- I really had to give myself emotionally and physically to caring for a little growing green bean inside of me.. and now after.. I am starting to feel like myself again.  This outfit made me feel so girly.. peachy.. and comfy.. What more could a girl want?

January Portland Blogger Meet up.

Over the weekend I went to a Portland Blogger Meet up and the theme was "Give your Blog a Buzz" It was held in very typical Portland fashion- a coffee shop. (buzz get it? a caffeine buzz)  The morning was filled with fluffy coffees, Portland Bloggers Bingo, and  lots of chit chatting with some of my favorite gal pals and even made some new friends.
The speakers talked a lot about getting your blog organized and to setting achievable goals.  Since I just had a baby 6 months ago- my big blogging goals are to make time for blogging and have more of a schedule and be a little bit braver.  I tend to be a little shy at putting myself out there and want to be braver and a little bolder.
I am super excited to go to the next get together.

Have you been to a blogger meet up?

Eleanor: 6 months

My big girl- the last 6 months has just flown by.  It's funny because you spend your pregnancy waiting... and thinking "Are we there yet?.. are we there yet?" and now I often find myself wondering what happened to the time and thinking there isn't enough time in the day.

Weight: 19 pounds

Size: I just put her in size 3 diapers and in 6 months clothes.

Eat:  She still is a morning baby and loves her breakfast.  She has gobbled up so many different kinds of vegetables and fruits- sweet potato, green beans, squash, prunes, pears, banana, and now peaches! Loves to make her yuck face when trying something new.  She drinks about 30-35 oz of breast milk a day and we have introduced the sippy cup!

Sleep: Sleep is still getting easier a little bit each day.  She has slept through the night several times but general wakes up 1 time a night..which I am totally okay with!

Baby Milestones: She can sit up by herself with out support and is grabbing at everything... lots of open and closing the hands.  She still is doing some rolling but not too much of a rolly polly... she is a wiggler and kicker. Her new sounds are clearing her throat and then turning into a laugh.  She also sat up from laying down by herself. She hasn't done it a lot by herself but I see her working at it.  When she sees someone she knows she smacks the ground or the person who is caring her (me) lol.  She gets so excited to see people she recognizes and just can't hold it in.

Loves: The pugs- they get the most squeals and laughs of glee from her.  For Christmas she got one of those bouncy chairs that lets you spin around and play with all the gadgets- She loves it! She kicks her legs with delight in that contraption and loves to make her self bounce.

Hates: She hates throwing something and not being able to reach it.  She throws her play keys and grumbles and then one of the pugs will sit right next to her.  I some how think the pugs are either helping her with some sort of support or maybe guarding her.  She hates falling down! She has done a couple of face plants from going from the sitting position to tummy and if she looses her balances.  tears.. :(

She has grown so much in one short month.  She makes me heart fill with so much joy.

DIY: Handmade Stamp on a Onesie

1.  Cardboard
2.  Scissors
3.  Fabric Paint
4.  Paint Brush
5.  Onesie
6.  Paper plate
7.  X-acto
1.  Cut out desired fun animal from card board.  Pick a thinner cardboard for easier cutting but not too thin!
2.  Take your x-acto and trim the edges of your stamp to make the edges nice and smooth.
3.  Place fabric paint onto paper plate.
4.  Take your stamp and stamp!  Stamp your image onto your onesie.
5.  Use your paint brush to smooth out the lines- or add more paint if its necessary or desired.
6.  That's it! Your done! Awesome job.
I love how the cardboard created an awesome pattern and had so much fun making these.  It's great making a plain onesie into something handmade and special :).

Motivation Monday- Firsts

Happy Monday! I couldn't help but snap this picture of Nora.  We are working on solids and for some reason every time she tries a new fruit or vegetable- she makes this face like it's the worst thing ever! which makes me laugh every time she makes it.  What's funny is I have her try the same fruit/vege a day or two later and loves it.  Her crumpled up yuck face- too funny!

Last week was filled with so many firsts for me.  It's a new start to a new year and wanted to start 2013 on the right foot- and stick to my goals.  I joined a mommy work out program, which I think I have reawakened muscles I forgot I had. It is a good butt kicking experience that I completely need.  It was  great meeting other moms that are in exact same boat as me... wanting to get out of the house with the baby and doing something that is good for you.  After working out the babys and rugrats can come out and play and the amount of cuteness in the room will make anyone smile and giggle.  Another goal on my list was to to make something everyday.  I started making art everyday and I  feel so energized and inspired to be painting again.  I felt a little zapped from all the holiday painting and diying and combined with all of craziness that the holidays bring- it felt good to try and get into a routine again. It was a definite week of firsts for me.

Nora's first was trying squash. :)

How is the start to your 2013?

This and That

Winston and Nora love their morning snuggles. :) This week just zoomed by because of the holidays and I am fending off a little cold.  I already miss the lazy mornings of the whole family piling and cuddling up in bed.  This weekend we are relaxing and winding down after the holidays.  I hope to make some big breakfasts (maybe even including pancakes! yum!) and get more art studio time in.

What are up to this weekend?

A Walk on the Beach

Over the holidays we loaded up the baby and pugs and headed out to visit my parents out on the coast.  We call it going to the coast instead of going out to the beach because it is freezing cold.. like really cold.  We do call it the beach when we walk out to the sand- odd i know!  but there is something so magical about this place.. maybe it's the tall grass.. the swirling sand pipers... at night you can see the  glow of the fishing boats out on the ocean.
Coming to the coast is one of the pugs most favorite things in the world.  When we hit my parents gravel road to their home- they start squealing like little pigs.
The whole family with all my nieces and nephews and pugs.. parents.. sisters.. husband.. all took lots of walks on the beach this holiday.

2013 Goals

Start my 365 day project.  My 365 day project is to make art everyday.  Since having a baby it has been a challenge to try to find time everyday to make something or paint something.  I have to paint at night since that is when the baby's sleeps, so often if I have a project I am working on I am up until 2-3 am.  It can be anything that revolves around making something and will take lots of photos to document my journey.

Get fit.  I am just going to say it. I want to lose the rest of the baby weight. ugh.. there I said it.  I have been looking at joining one of those mommy work out groups, so that I can bring Nora while I work out.  I have been looking at checking out a Stroller Striders or Baby Boot Camp but haven't quite made up my mind yet.  It's amazing how many mommy groups there are but I'm ready.

Read 1 book a month.  It's good for my brain I know it.

Do more photo shoots.  I snap a lot of pictures but I want to venture out with my camera and friends more.. and not just using my iphone. I have a couple of shoots lined up 2013 and am pretty excited about it.

Make my bed- everyday.  Sounds like a silly goal but that was my goal for 2012 and I did it everyday and loved it.  I get better sleep and I feel a little bit responsible for picking up after myself .. since I am a grown up after all.

Take time for having adventures.  Tim and I are both pretty busy and we have to make a conscious effort to take time out time for each other and for our family.  (quality time) This year I want to make amazing memories for us as a family and for our darling daughter.

Happy New Years!

Happy New Years!
It's official we are in 2013 and I can't wait for all the exciting things to come.. new art projects.. new blog projects.. and lots of family adventures.  Yes that is Nora in full conversation with Winston, I can't believe how patient he is with her and loves to sneak her kisses.  I'm not sure what it is about the pugs but Nora just laughs and squeals with delight! If one of the pugs gets close enough she has begun to reach and grab for their fur.

Have a wonderful New Years!
