DIY State of Oregon Halloween Costume.

I have been stumped for weeks trying to figure out the perfect halloween costume for Nora or least an idea that wasn't just buying something off the rack because I even looked at the store and none of the costumes really jumped out at me.  I think the hard part about figuring out a costume is that I wanted something that went over her jacket because it gets cold and rainy here and the most important thing I needed in a costume was if she destroyed or got it dirty then it's not a big deal and I wouldn't have to worry about getting a stain out because she loves to make big messes and loves to destroy. So it finally came to me- since she is made in Oregon why not make her a sandwich board in the shape of Oregon?

All I did was take a piece of form board and cut it in half and take an exact-o knife and cut out the shape of my great state... the beaver state.  Speaking of beavers- I don't think I have ever even seen a beaver in Oregon.  I've seen the damage of some beavers that have started cutting down trees but never the beaver in the flesh. :) I added a little bedazzle with the heart, the birds and threes.  Then I glued on some string to tie over the shoulders and that is it! How easy? and I love it and I hope she loves it or maybe 15 years down the road she is going to be like mom how could you make something so embarrassing? lol.  It makes me laugh a little thinking about embarrassing her because I remember thinking how embarrassing my mom was.  Now I need to figure out my costume and I only have 4 days.

What are you going to be for halloween?

Goodness she is adorable! Look at her toddling away! And the perfect mini-Oregon, too. You did such a good job! Trust me, she'll appreciate that you took the time to make something unique for her. xo

LOVE it! I said on Christine's blog the other day that this is an area where I fall down as a mom. Cal had some great pre-made costumes as a little one (astronaut takes the cake, I think), but it really got good when he was older and started making his own. My favorite was similar to this, a simple hurricane warning icon, worn over his coat, and his candy bucket said "Disaster Relief." Simple and homemade is the best, isn't it?

so cute.
i am thinking the same.. something cheap and easy and if it got ripped or dirty it would be okay.

This is a great idea, she looks so cute. My mom always made our costumes too. The store ones were always so cheesy.
