Goals for 2014

Well I thought I should write down my goals for the year because then they will actually happen right?

1.  Run my first 5k- eek there I said it.
2.  Read a new book a month.  Now before I had a baby this would have been an easy goal because I love to read but now having my daughter I have been listening to books on tape but I miss reading and seeing the words.
3.  Quit Television.. Now I don't mean completely quit television.. I am going on a 60 day fast from watching tv because I love it sooo much and I love reality television.. Judge Judy.. Real Housewives you will be missed.  I'm two days in and I've only thought about watching television about thirty times.
4.  Share my ugly art work.. I do a lot of drawing and painting that I don't share because I think it's bad and this year I want to just make it and show it.  I had this goal last year and didn't do it, but I know I should.
5.  Re-learn how to sew. I used to sew some of my own clothes in high school  and recently dug out my old sewing machine but I want to make some stuff :) not sure exactly what but I want to make something..

These sound like attainable goals. I can relate to one on sewing, I will learn about that this year.

What a good list! They really stretch you to do new things, which is good! And I can always get behind reading more, but don't be so hard on yourself if you can't, because books-on-tape are sometimes a necessary sacrifice when you're raising a wee one! Or so I've heard, haha. xo

love your goals, especially the 5k! good luck!

Girl, those are some BRAVE goals! I love tv too, so that one would be hard for me. Keep us posted on how it goes! Happy New Year! XO

Good luck with your goals! I find that I watched TV obsessively when I had roommates or my family around, but now that I'm on my own I am busy with other things and don't miss it too much!

those are amazing goals. i weened myself off TV a few years ago and honestly don't even miss it :) i still watch a couple of hours a week with my boyfriend {and can NEVER miss my beloved downton abbey} but typically when he turns on the tv i just pull out a book, and i always feel like instead of just totally vegging out i accomplished something.

Love these! I wanna take sewing back up too!
We actually got rid of our TV she we moved into our new apartment. So far it has been awesome, more reading, talking, and less tv. But thanks to netflix and co we can still watch our favorite shows :)

those are some serious goals, like the 5k, eek. but so many people do it, you can too!! a book a month is a great goal. i tend to binge read, i will read several books over a period and then i won't be able to get in the groove of reading for a couple months. it drives me crazy but i think it probably evens out to a book a month. xo

These sound like great goals…but are you sure you can live without Real Housewives? We gave up TV a while ago, and I sure do miss other people's drama! ;)

Oh my gosh. Okay..first off...we already have a lot in common. Haha. I LOVE tv. Like...I have "fasted" from it before. And it is a "time-suck" for me and so so unproductive!! Also, reading a book a month is a goal of mine too. Only..I don't have kids...yet. I am due on Feb 24! A little girl! :)

Can't wait to see your "ugly" artwork. I am sure it is way more fabulous than you give it credit!

Good luck with your goals! I've been trying to run 5k for about a year now but things just keep holding me back. Re-learning sewing sounds awesome as well.

I think these are some great goals! I have been listening to books on tape recently too but I'm sure it compares to actually reading the words on the page. And good luck with giving up tv for 60 days. I would have such a hard time with that but I think it is an awesome goal!

This is a great list of goals! I hope you are able to accomplish everything on your list!

I love these goals - I'm joining you on reading more for sure! I also love goal 4, although I'm sure it's not ugly at all! But sharing your work can only bring good things surely :)
Happy new year!

Its weird how you can forget how to do something! I know how to knit, but I've gone a year without knitting and now I can't remember how to get started. I know if someone showed me, it would all come back!

I like the idea of a TV fast. I've been binge watching so much lately.

Your goals are short and succinct, love it! Do you do resolutions too?

Quitting television would be so hard, I see we certainly have some similar goals! Trying to limit mine down to a low number of hours per week, eek! I'm such a tv junkie! I even use Sidereel to track all the shows and episode numbers, otherwise I'd forget!

tv fast sounds really tough, oh and running 5k sounds harsh too! I hope you accomplish all your goals in 2014!!

Kat said...

Good luck with your resolutions! I'd also like to read more. Once you run your first 5km, you're going to want to push yourself to go even further :)

PS. Judge Judy is the bomb-diggity.

Best wishes in quitting reality TV... oh, I love it too much so not this year... especially RHOA! But I'm sure it will free up a lot of time for you to be super productive! Happy 2014!

Beautiful aspirations! Some of our goals sort of coincide with one another:

Fantastic goals! I want to run a in a 5k too! I can run the distance I always get so nervous about actual races though!!

And good luck on your television fast! That'll be so good for you!!

That's a pretty comprehensive list. Let me know if you want some book recommendations - I have tons!

Best of luck with the television thing. I'm not a huge tv watcher, I actually don't have cable (or even basic cable) and I don't miss it. I have subs to Netflix and Hulu and I can keep up with certain shows that way...but I'm not mindlessly sitting there watching.

I'd definitely love to see some artwork! I bet it's far better than you're letting on :)

And yes TV, it's so easy to sit down in front of it at the end of the day haha.

Hmm maybe...

Kay said...

Do please show your artwork. I'd love to see it.

Quitting TV would be so hard, but I think it would be the best thing in the end. How's it going?
