Making Art Everyday in 2016

Yay! It is happening!

I'm going to be honest. I really went back and forth, if I could make art everyday again for another year. Showing up every single day and carving out time to dedicate to art, is hard. But it is one of the most rewarding experiences and gifts you can give to yourself everyday. This is the one time of day that you can take the time and truly create whatever you want to create.

I am so excited to embark on the second year of making art every day.  It's the time to make the impossible possible. The best part about this project is seeing what could happen.

Now a few ground rules for this project and here they are!

1. Make art everyday, no matter how big or small. Any medium counts. Even if I draw a stick person or just snap a blurry photo, the point is just to make art.
2.  I am not allowed to give up. This is very important.
3.  I am not allowed to throw away any artwork or rip out any pages in my sketch book. I am allowed to start over.  I have been known if I get fed up with a painting or mad at my work. I am not allowed to start painting over canvases or ripping out pages in my sketchbook.

I'll be using the #makeart2016 on instagram and twitter if you want to follow along or join in!

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 365

Making Art Everyday in 2015 : Ending Notes

Geez! I am so extremely humbled about making art each and every day in 2015.  so humbled. It's been one of the hardest challenges ever and the most rewarding. It sounds pretty simple to just make art everyday but tough on the days when life is so full there is no time.

My main goal at the start of this project was to keep art in my life after having my second baby.  The second part was seeing where my art would take me.  I never really kept a sketch book before this project.  I tried.. lots of time, but never really went for it and completed a sketchbook from begining to end.

This year I learned so much about the craft of making art and painting.  I have been painting for a long time but this is the first time that I have painted consistently everyday and for a entire year! I still really love to oil paint and this little project made me want to paint even more. It made me realize I have so much to explore with my art, like I am just at the tip of the iceberg.

Making art is such a personal and heart felt journey.  I wanted o share it every single day online because it held me accountable and I want to become braver.  Sharing, even the work I think is lousy is pretty liberating. In order to get to my best work, I have to go through the crumby stuff.  Sometimes you have to make something ugly in order to find the art that really pushes you and find the best surprises.

More on the tale of this year, I realized and am still learning of letting go of perfection. Since I tend to be an over thinker and getting really wrapped up in my work, this project has been great to take a step back and let go.  I can really only do so much on some days, like 20 minutes! So I don't need to make things be perfect but I just need to capture that thought or idea.

I showed up everyday. I showed up and was present. I was present some days more than others but I was able to create something everyday.  I am crazy excited for next year and plan on doing it again in 2016  but this time I have a few surprises along the way. (Trust me awesome surprises)

I learned a ton, grew a ton and can't wait to see what happens next.

PS. Stay tuned for another post on Making Art 2016.

Pumpkin Pancake Recipe with Oxo Tot

It is no joke that Everett is a very picky eater and he doesn't like to get his hands dirty. He is only one and has a very strong opinion about what he likes and what he doesn't. He is pretty much the exact opposite of his big sister Nora. Nora loves to get messy and just dives right in for every meal. Everett on the other hand is a challenge and looks at his food carefully.  If it's a new food, he puts out one finger out and touches the food. Picky! or maybe I should say cautious.

Oxo Tot sent me a care package with all of the essential gear needed for the picky and non picky baby and toddler. Seriously.. since Everett is such a picky eater, this is exactly what the doctor ordered. I decided to make a special batch of pumpkin pancakes which even the pickiest eater can not refuse.

Perch Boosted Seat with Straps // Divided Plate with Removable Ring // Fork and Spoon Set
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of Pumpkin Puree
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of salt

Directions:
I could tell you to combine the wet and then add the dry but if you are a busy mom like me. Combine in a bowl and lightly stir with the fork.  Heat pan and melt a little butter or non stick spray. Spoon a a dollop in pan and wait till you can see those little bubbles form in the batter- then flip. Continue to make pancakes and drown in maple syrup and butter. and enjoy! They are delicious and fluffy. The best part is your kitchen smells incredible. Total Bonus.

Since Everett is so picky he does better when the food isn't touching and he dived right in (which is rare), but who can really refuse a pumpkin pancake?

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 332

currently away from my studio for a few days and on vacation. I brought my oil paints and of course my sketchbook. Even though I love a good holiday away. I hate being away from my studio. and my kids don't sleep on vacation when means my little pocket of time to make art is cut in half.

maybe 20 minutes of art with several starting over points and lots of interruptions.  I'm only at day one on vacation and i'm ready to go home.

Making Art Everyday in 2015// Day 330

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so especially thankful this year. Last year at Thanksgiving, I had a 2 week old baby Everett. I had just started thinking about making art everyday because I missed having it in my life on a daily basis.

I looked at m two kiddos this morning. Nora standing on her toes while playing with a table full of legos. Everett peering up at Nora with so much curiosity. Nora is such a great big sister and loves her baby brother so very much.   2 pugs that are constantly and happily on crumb duty.  and have their noses pressed to the ground waiting for their treats.

We also bought a house this year, and a house that I am so excited to make lots of new memories in and raise my family in. I'm thankful for a husband who always inspires me to do my best and to stay creative on a daily basis. I really can't wait to start working on building my dream studio!

Gosh! and I am  also to the end of my year long art journey. I plan on continuing to make art and share my journey because I just feel like I have just started and I have so much more growing to do.

I am grateful. and thankful.
