A Drawer A Day

At the start of every new year, I secretly try to be a little bit more organized. After having baby Everett, I have felt the need to really declutter my house.  Nora is two and half and is so extremely curious.  She loves to go through every single drawer and rearrange every single shelf.  She now takes one of the kitchen chairs and drags it to the high shelves and cabinets and peers inside and pulls everything out.

I have been feeling minus my sketchbook extremely creatively stunted. Before having baby Everett I was constantly doing projects around the house but now I can barely do the dishes or fold laundry.  I can't even remember the last time I pulled out the vacuum. I know I should be easy myself because hey I just had a baby but I miss inspiring Nora and myself around the house.

So in an attempt to be a little more organized and declutter more of my home, I'm cleaning out one drawer or shelf a day.  I can totally do that, right? I mean it can't be that hard to just do a simple little chore once a day, right?

Art Love- Beth Galton

Beth Galton is a freelance food/still life photographer and has done a series called Cut Food.  She had the help of food stylist Charlotte Omens. This series literally cuts the food in half, and you can see what's inside.  I just love the fresh perspective and almost a slice of life. I find myself looking at them, thinking about how she did them and I think that's what makes them special.

Making Art Everyday in 2015 1-7

I can't believe I am already 12 days into making art everyday for 2015. What I am most proud of is that I am sticking with it, even though it's really hard. Sometimes the most rewarding things are the hardest. I also feel lucky that even with a 2 month old, that I am able to sneak into my studio. Read more about the project here.

I'm in Metro Parent Portland Magazine!

I am still so blown away that I was in Metro Parent Portland Magazine for December.  It's a magazine that is distributed around town.  It provides the community with relevant and useful information for parenting.

When I first found out I was pregnant with Nora, I started picking up Metro Parent magazine because I had no idea on anything about being a parent.  My parenting experience was pretty limited besides maybe babysitting when I was 12.  Metro Parent great because it provided me with kiddo calendar of fun family activities and it highlights local family friendly businesses, like going to Baby hour at the Portland Art Museum or story time at the Oregon Symphony.

I love being a parent in Portland!

Happy Monday!

Knew New

Isn't baby Everett, the cutest? He is nearly 8 weeks old and is the sweetest little boy.  He loves to be held and one of his favorite cuddle spots, is right up by your neck.  He could probably hang out there all day. He has just started making those sweet cooing baby sounds and has one of the widest smiles.

Even though I have done this once before, it's still a lot of learning. I have forgotten what it is like to not getting any sleep, like at all. Little babies love their cat naps, but I miss night sleeps or at least getting 5 hours in a row sleeps.

Juggling two kids is pretty tough, especially when they are both itty bitty. I want to make sure I'm establishing my connection with Everett, but giving Nora the amount of attention she needs. Tim has helped out a lot, but I think having a second baby has made me realize how great of a daddy he is and wants to be.

I feel lucky.

Happy // Ep. 001

This is the start of a new series of some of my photos, that I want to start sharing and never forgetting.  I've been starting to snap more unplanned photos and using my camera versus my phone. I want to just capture it all or at least try to.
My mom having a baby moment with Everett. It cracks me up the amount of baby talk, everyone does around a squishy new baby.
My dad taking Nora and Winston for a walk.  It warms my heart so much, how much she loves him. He loves showing her new things and taking her on well needed toddler adventures.
A big pile of home made snicker doodle cookies.  I love to bake especially over the holidays and nothing beats fresh baked cookies.  Need I say more? Oh yes and they were delicious.
We went to zoo lights and it was pretty great.  Nora was in so much wonder and awe, that she was speechless.
Winston, such a lover. :)

Have a wonderful day!

2015 Goals

Hello 2015! One of my favorite things at the start of a new year is having some fresh goals and ideas to work towards.  Since I just had a baby at the end of 2014, I have in a whole new chapter of life to look forward to.  It's sort of awesome and terrifying, all at the same time.  I still can't believe, I am a mommy to two whole kiddos and it makes me want to achieve my goals even more.  If I write them down, they are bound to happen... right?

1.  Make art everyday in 2015.  I talked more about it here, but I am pretty excited about this goal. It is extremely challenging to just carve out a little time for myself, but what I miss the most is making art. If I tackle this goal, even if I draw a stick man in my sketchbook, it will make me so incredibly proud of myself.

2.  Take my kiddos for an artist date.  When Nora was a baby, I took her a few times to the Portland Art Museum.  It's really important to me that my kids get exposed to lots of different types of cultural experiences at a young age.  I didn't go to my first art museum until my early 20s and it changed my whole outlook on how important it is for people to have and look at art.

3.  Ugh. lose the baby weight. I start back up with my mommy work out group this week. I am looking forward to seeing all my friends, but why can't I be one of those people who enjoys working out?

4.  Take more photos and learn how to use my camera better. In the last few years, I have learned by leaps and bounds how to use my camera, and have grown to really love my camera.  I know it's a blanket goal but at the end of each year, I always feel like I could have used my camera more.

5.  Keep a calendar.  I try really hard every few years to buy a calendar and go on about how I am going to use it.  I really mean it this time.  I can do it! I know I can! I actually want to try and do it a little bit different.  I want to not just keep track of my future dates but write down the progression of some of my projects.  I would love to be able to look back the end of 2015 and see what I was working on at the beginning.

Do you have any goals for 2015?
