Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 271

Had a dream last night that a white peacock flew into my room. It was so lovely and graceful.

The best inspiration always comes from dreams. Don't you think?

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 269

Happy day today. The local apple stand is officially open! There is the best apple stand pretty close to my house and it's the greatest. It's a stand based on the honor system and they have a little cash box you can leave your money in.

I can't wait to make pie! I mean that's truly that is were apples belong, right?

Hope you are having a wonderful Saturday.

Feast Portland's Sandwich Invitational - the BEST sandwich EVER!

Part of Feast Portland's annual event (Portland's all time best food fest), the opening night is Widmere Brother's Sandwich Invitational presented by Dave's Killer Bread. It is a ton of your favorite celebrity chefs and amazing Portland chefs all crammed in one place making a sandwich of their choosing.

I love a sandwich. I do! The bread with all the delicious fillings and the choices are endless. This year there was one clear winner and it was sort of slam dunk.  I didn't want to like it but it was sort of amazing. I am still thinking about the spice of his sandwich.

Gregory, top chef runner up from Portland. (yay!) He also made two treats. First was his spicy Chinese BBQ Pork Crepe with pickled turnip and fermented chilis.  He should be seriously bottling that chili sauce. Second was the Peanut Butter Ice cream sandwich with Valrhona chocolate and banana brittle. I was lucky enough to have a few of these and I need to learn how to make them because it was like a peanut butter Mounds Bar.

Egg Slut came all the way from California for this event. Yay! Happy Belly! Egg Slut made a "egg dipped" slow roasted pork shoulder, whites and herbs in a warm baguette, served with a egg yolk dipping sauce. When are they going to open a Portland location? When?!

I had so much fun at this event and for a girl who loves her sandwiches, this one is top notch. They event gets a little bigger and bigger every year and more competitive with their sandwich making skills.

How many days till next year's Feast?

Let's Brunch! Feast's Tillamook Brunch Village

If you are from Portland, or visit Portland. You know we are serious brunchers.  If you are planning on going to brunch in Portland, either plan on a long wait or plan on going early and waiting in line.

Is it worth it? 100% because it is pure deliciousness. As you know, I was at Feast over this past weekend. (It's Portland's most amazing food fest)  On Sunday, their main event is Tillamook's Brunch Village. The best part about it? is being able to eat from all the best brunch spots in town and they are all in one place.

My tummy is still smiling. Everything was so delicious. I love all the different surprises from all the chefs and restaurants/bakeries.  Here are a few of my favorites. yay!!

1. Almond Crescent Cookies and Coconut Macaroons - Karen Kay Marie and Matilda Novak. Their parent's have a Hungarian restaurant located called Novak's Hungarian.
2. Brisket Bennedict w/ Qual Egg with a smoked hollandaise and a home made english muffin. Lardo's Rick Genecarelli. If you haven't been to Lardo yet, then I am not sure what you are waiting for.  There are multiple locations and they make such amazing sammiches and have one of the best burgers in town. Anytime anyone needs a Portland recommendation, I always suggest Lardo. Oh and don't forget to order the dirty fries.
3.  Spicy Black Bean Pork, Turnip Cake, Small Egg, Berry Bean Bao. Patrick Fleming of Boke Bowl. This is one of my husband's most favorite ramen places in town. They have an east side and west side locations. This was such a surprising spicy treat, that it reminded of the unique and rich flavor their ramen shops have.
4.  Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. Andrew Carmellini of Bar Prima. Not from Portland, but is located in New York but his food was quite delicious. How can a girl refuse a pancake with lemon curd? Not this one :)
5.  Pip's Donut's. Ok this is a no brainer. They make donuts made to order. Yes I said made to order. So fresh donuts on every single order. They served their classic honey and sea salt and a marion berry lavender compote. If you do go here. My personal favorite is the Nutella with seasalt. I could eat a mountain of them.
6.  Lamb Rillettes with goat cheese chile and mint. Ben Ford's at Ford's Fillings Station. Crunchy bread with spicy and sweet goodness? Yes. This guy's also not from Portland but I completely want to go visit his LA restaurant.
7. Pine State's Biscuit teamed up with Tillamook to make this super yummy treat.  It's Pine State's secret crust with bourbon apple butter, Tillamook smoked cheddar and red eye bacon jam.  It was kind of the most unexpected surprise of the whole Brunch Village. Pine State does make the best biscuits in town and they delivered.
8. Fried Chicken with waffle and green tomato syrup by Simpatica. This dining hall is constantly changing their menu to include seasonal ingredients and they have a pretty awesome dinner too. Yum! Yum! Yum!

PS. This year's event sold out like crazy! So if you are planning on checking it out next year. You will have to snag your ticket early.

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 268

Fall is approaching and it's my favorite time of year to paint Oregon landscapes. Oregon is a place with all four seasons but fall is the most beautiful. The colors and that amazing Christmas tree smell is all around.

Nora's First Day of Preschool!

My little people are growing up! Nora had her very first day of preschool. I am not sure if it was harder on me than on Nora.  It was one of those moments in life, that everything changed and is different. I know it was bound to happen sooner or later and growing up is inevitable, but this is a whole new chapter.

She picked out some new blinking princess shoes and a glitter sparkle back pack. It makes me cringe just thinking about how gaudy it is but she just loves it. I guess a little glitter and sparkle never hurt anybody but geez I wonder how long of a phase this one is?

I knew going into this day, that it would be tough for Nora to be with out mommy. I just knew it. I can barely make it out of the house by myself to run to the store and Tim is watching the kiddos. Nora is very emotional about the leaving and going of mommy. Going into this, I was prepared for a colossal melt down. Guess what? As I was about to leave her at preschool, she cried so hard and was the loudest (as always). I stayed for a good 15 minutes.

Her new preschool teacher gave her a big hug and I just left. I knew if I stayed any longer I would be a blubbering mess and the only parent crying. I at least made it out to the hallway before I started getting misty eyed and then totally crying.

I know it's going to get easier and it gives me more some special time with Everett, but Nora was the first.  When I picked her up and told her that I was really proud of how brave she was and asked her about what she learned.  She told me that she learned what a stop sign was and how to walk in a line.

It seems so simple but their little brains are hard at work! I'm looking forward to new adventures, field trips and of course show and tell. and I am sure it will be her showing off her princess collection.

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 265

I only have a little over 100 days left of this challenge and I am still shocked I have made it this far. Usually on these types of large projects, I might start them and just let it go when it gets to hard. and trust me making art is one of the hardest things ever.

I think one of the biggest lessons I have learned so far has been how important it is to have art in your life. Whatever the form is. Art comes in different shapes and sizes and especially mediums. It just feels like this is what I should be doing.

I've started planning some new ventures and projects for the coming year and still on planning on incorporating a ton of art. because I need it.

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 263

Today is a day of Brunch. I am headed to the annual Feast's Tillamook Brunch Village and I am prepared for pure deliciousness.!

What's not to love about Brunch? the cocktails or the yummy food?

I have always been really intimidated by painting eggs. I'm not sure if its the translucent quality of the eggs or getting the goo just right. I should practice some more, but I can see what's so alluring about painting them. The balance of the whites with the yellow of the yolk.

What are you up to today?

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 253

Pizza.. sigh. Pizza will forever be one of my favorite food groups. Yes food groups. Don't judge!  I could easily eat pizza every day, and it's the best for breakfast. I think it's so great because there are so many different kinds and when your in a pinch.. there is always pizza!

Pizza is surprisingly hard to paint. The melty layers of cheese with the shine of the pepperoni. I do love a painting challenge and this was one.  I usually like to use a small round brush and think next time to use more of flat tip brush to have less defined strokes.

I'm sure this won't be the last pizza painting because who doesn't love pizza?

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 252

mornings have easily turned into my favorite part of the day. the quiet before both kiddos and dogs trample through the house.

We have been unpacking and organizing our new house but it still feels like there is just a never ending amount of boxes to dig through.  We have started painting and figuring out our kitchen remodel. Currently the kitchen has teal cabinets with ivy wall paper. (pictures coming soon!) and every room is painted pink. We didn't realize this before we moved in but it's the original color of the house and pink is in every closet and the inside of the garage. lots of work and diys in the near future.

but at least there are morning breakfasts in bed before the day really starts.
