Do It Yourself: Easy Baby Donut Costume

If you can operate a pair of scissors, then you can make this extremely easy baby costume. The best part of Halloween (at least for me) is making the kiddos halloween costumes. It's the best, especially when they are a baby, because I can dress them up in whatever I want.

Nora was a M &; M one year, then the state of Oregon, and then last year the Game of Operation. This year I was only able to dress up Everett, since Nora is now officially old enough to pick out her own Halloween costume. I guess at the age of 3, she should have some sort of opinion about what she wants to be. So, I caved and bought her a princess outfit. (ugh) and she loves it.

Supplies:
 Baby Onsie or Adult Onsie
Felt- at least one square of tan, pink for frosting, and then whatever colors for sprinkles. I used red, white, green and yellow.
Scissors
Fabric Glue

1.  Cut the tan square of felt into a large oval shaped O. Then cut the pink fabric in a skinnier version of the same O. Cut your sprinkle felt into stripes then snip pieces off.
2. Glue the large tan O onto the Onsie then the pink 0.  Then delicately glue your sprinkles.
3.  Let it dry! Pretty easy? But you did a great job.

Paradise Postcard Show

I'm participating the upcoming group art show Paradise Postcard Show. It's a postcard show and it's an open call which means anyone can participate. I truly love shows like this because there is such a wide array of art and usually a lot of it.  There is always a special energy about a group show with all of the people huddled in  looking at the art.

The theme is What is your Paradise? My paradise with having 2 kiddos and 2 noisy pugs is a quiet minute with a crunchy piece of toast covered in delicious jam. Sounds like paradise to me.

There is still time if you want to send in a little art to participate, the deadline to participate is November 9th and more details here.

Details About the Show:
Dates: November 18th- December 20th.
Location: Ugly Art Room, 460 Madison Ave, Corvallis, OR

Ahh Portland. Portland skyline, you never looked so good.

This one is the next painting for the Big 500. Painting Portland at night is kinda my favorite. It's something about the glow, the lights and the crisp air.

We bought a House!

We bought a house! I have been extremely quiet on the non art front because we have been in the whole process of buying and selling a home.  We have lived in our previous town home for over 9 years. Let me tell you the whole process, has been extremely stressful. It's exciting but it's tough knowing and making these huge decisions are going to really impact my whole little family.

We ended up previously buying a town house because we both worked long hours and before kiddos we loved to travel a lot. We thought that by just getting a town house it would be a great step into home ownership. We didn't have to do any work to the home and it was just the right size for just the two of us.

2 kiddos, 2 big fat pugs, both of us working from home and we both wanted something different. Tim and I were ready for our lives to change. Which means we were finally ready to start the whole process of buying and selling a home. We have been saving our pennies for a long time and wanted to find our forever house.  A house that we would live in and love, well forever!

After interviewing 9 realtors, I finally found the perfect one. Yes 9! I wanted to find the perfect one and the best fit for our family. I know that this would be a terrible process and wanted to make sure and be confident in our decision.

Our town house sold in less than 2 days. Which meant that we needed to find our forever home extremely quickly. A home we could raise our kiddos in, have a garden, share and make memories and a home we would love. That's not a lot to ask. like at all.. right?

We looked and looked at a lot of houses.  I wanted a fixer upper and Tim didn't. Tim told me some of the houses scared him, with the amount of work that they needed. The hardest part of looking for our dream home was finding the one we both equally loved. I wanted something that I could do a lot of work to and be inspired in. Tim wanted a yard and closer to move in ready. He isn't the handiest of guys. (but he can learn!)

So we found one! We wrote a letter to the seller and sent pictures with our offer because we learned it wasn't the only offer. Great. It was the only house we both instantly fell head over heals. It needed some work but it had beautiful bones and so much natural light. After a a couple days, we found out we got the house.

The house needs a lot of work. Maybe less than a lot of homes, but a lot for us because we have never really done any sort of real remodeling or repair work. Yes I have stripped furniture and painted a few walls, but nothing really beyond that scope. We don't even have a lawn mower! I do have a hammer and a screwdriver but that's pretty much it. I am fully prepared to role up my sleeves and learn how to do things. I can totally do this.

So of course I am going to be doing lots of art (that's really my heart) but I am super excited to start showing you some of my home projects and making art for my new house.  Our first project is the kitchen! Let me just start by saying the kitchen in our new house is teal blue with this ivy feathery wall paper. I know a vision. So our first big project is the kitchen..

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 295

Portrait Practice. I caught my neighbor today walking to get her paper and her hair was sticking straight up. hehe! I always think it's fun to do an unexpected portrait and I always love a portrait that has a bit of a surprise!

I also love to incorporate lots of portrait practice to this yearly art project because I want the practice. I need the practice. I have been contemplating dedicating a whole 30 days to portraits but maybe not this year. I really do want to take some time to focus on learning portraits.

The Big 500!

A holiday show that I participate in every year is the Big 500! yay! It is pretty much one of my all time favorite shows because it was one of my very first art shows many years ago. It has grown from 30 artists to now over 500. Every artist gets a limited number of panels and they are all the same size and they are all the same price. It's a great show that has so many different kinds of artists and artists in different stages of their careers. All of the art is hung gallery style and mixed up with no names and titles.

It  is the only art show that at opening night of show, people wait in line and you have to plan on going early. When the doors open for the show, there are collectors that run in and literally rip art off the walls. It's pretty much a zoo! And you see people carrying stacks of panels to buy. The energy is pretty incredible. It's a cash and carry show and you can pay for the work and take it home, that night.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be showing my work for the show.

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 293

Today is a new day with a fresh start. My Instagram account is still deleted by Instagram. It makes me so incredibly sad that I have had my account for a couple of years and everything is just gone. I have the pictures on back up and I will miss the people who I have connected with. Yes some I will reconnect with but others, the internet is such a big place. Or people I have connected with in real life and we connect on Instagram. It's just makes me sad, that at a snap of a finger a community and friends are gone. Poof!

I'm going to wait a few days and see if Instagram will respond to my help request, before starting over. I feel like I have started over so many times in my life.  I should be used to it by now, but this one is the hardest. I am just at the tail end of a year long art project. An art project that has taken me on this incredibly journey of learning so much about making art and myself.

I have made so many new friends and learned so much. I am going to keep posting my daily and my other projects.

oil on board- more on this painting later. it's part of a Christmas Art Show!

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 292

I have had the worst day possible. It's one of those days that keeps getting worse and hopefully you hope it's the last.  I found out today that Instagram deleted my account. Great! One of the best things about Instagram is making so many new friends and finding a whole artist community. I filed something with the Instagram help desk and let's see where that goes.

Second my phone isn't working and I couldn't get an appointment with the Apple store until tomorrow. It won't even boot up. So, that means no photos. Even more good news.

We have been embarking on redoing our kitchen and the stone place is so backed up that it took 3 weeks to get an appointment for counter tops.  So that means no sink for 3 weeks and with 2 small children. :(

Days like today make me laugh because in the internet. People always blog about the sunny side and things never going on wrong. My blog is truly my happy place. It has my art, my inspiration, and my favorite life moments. Since I have embarked on this making art everyday project, I've had to really dig deep and blog and make art everyday, whether I wanted to or not.

Today has been the worst day to make art so far this year. It's terrible but at least Tim is bring home beer and a pepperoni pizza.

Making Art Everyday in 2015 // Day 284

Happy Sunday.

Portrait Practice.

Sundays are one of my favorite days of the week. Everyone for the most part sleeps in and we can make a leisurely breakfast.  It's fall and the trees are starting to change. There is that cool crisp air that reminds me that the holidays are right around the corner.

We are headed out to go apple picking and find some painting inspiration. Fall always holds so much inspiration, because you can really see the seasons changing.
