Currently Reading- Wild:From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.

I think you can tell a lot about a book especially when it's good when the cover is curling back away from the book because it has been rolled so many times from lounging and reading, which happened to my copy of this book. I just finished reading Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. I've actually heard mixed reviews about this book, one friend told me it was a little on the dark side and another said it was an intense read. I think what drew me into this book is that its about a woman who hikes alone on the Pacific Crest Trail.  The PCT is a hiking trail that goes from the Mexican border all the way up to the Canadian border, and there is also a counter part on the opposite side of the United States called the Appalachian Trial.  I actually had a friend who hiked the PCT recently and it took her about 5 months, but most people do parts of it because it is quite a journey and lots of preparation.  In the book she didn't do the entire trial but she did do a good chunk.  The story is about a woman who loses her mother in her early 20's, does heroin, and goes through a divorce and feels this need or should say pull to hike the PCT, alone.   I think what I love most about the story is someone sharing and peeling away their life layers and seeing what would happen when she made it to the end trail.

Would I ever want to hike the PCT and live out a back pack for 4-5 months? Probably not but I can see the appeal of someone wanting their freedom in doing an adventure like this and finding themselves and who they become on the other side.  It was a super great book and perfect book to cozy up on the coach with a big cup of hot coco.

Reading anything good lately?

Ooh thank you for the little review! I had heard about this book but wasn't sure if I would be into it or not. I love stories based in nature or adventure, though!

Just saw your blog and am now following! :)

i don't know why this is a book i have stayed away from, but i recently heard an interview with her on NPR and it changed my mind. i don't think i know what i thought it was that turned me off, but from what i heard on the radio it sounds extraordinarily inspiring. would i love to have the balls (excuse my french) to do something like this? yes, i really, really would. would i actually do it? no, i probably wouldn't either, so i guess i should read this instead!

I read this book about a year ago now and I LOVED it. I really like how honest and raw it was. Life is dark sometimes, and she definitely gets that across. The part where she has to put down her moms horse had me crying like a baby! haha.
