Art Love: Henry Hargreaves

One of my guilty pleasures is watching true crime reality television or those prison shows. (hehe don't judge)   I think what is so addicting is just seeing the crazy or seeing how normal or relatable inmates can be, and then hearing the stories of how they ended up in prison.  I was called for jury duty once and they shuffled me into the court house basement and it was creepy because it felt like I being watched.  It was a place were people got into trouble like going to the principal office.  I hated it and never got called to serve but I still love those stupid crime television shows. "No Seconds" is a photography series created by Henry Hargreaves of death row inmate's last meals.  I think what is so interesting is the humanity it brings to people who have done such crazy and horrible things and it makes what they did so final.. the end to what they did and there are no take backs, forgiveness, and your destiny is decided.

I'm not sure what I would eat for my last meal but if I had to choose today it would most likely be a pepperoni pizza, nachos, chocolate cake and a cheeseburger with big fat french fries. ok, yes i am a glutton.

What would your last meal be?

This art makes me think of a book you must read. It's SO good and deals with last meals. It's called Nowhere But Home by Liza Palmer. Ever since I've often wondered the same thing.

I think mine would be a modge podge of fun things I love. Like chocolate chip cookies, buttered hot biscuits, coffee, Cuban pastries, etc.

Very interesting, definitely makes you think. My choice might be my mom's homemade stuffing with roasted chicken and some sort of extra rich chocolate dessert. Dark chocolate truffles, and brownies, maybe.

Wow! I have never heard of that!

Not sure what my last meal would be...I'll have to think on that! ;)

Wow...that's so interesting! I wasn't aware that they would be given a choice as to what their last meal would be.

Mine would definitely be a huge plate of Mexican food: guacamole, chips, quesadilla, tacos, bean & cheese burritos, you name it!

OMG! I love this post! I don't watch true crime tv, but this is super interesting! How's the guy who only ordered one olive?! lol! Geez, I honestly don't know what my last meal would be, I think I'd be at the point of not having much of an appetite and throwing up anything anyway if that ever happened!

That is very interesting. I don't know what I'd choose for my last meal, but I suppose most people would eat their "off limits" foods.

I haven't been called in for jury duty and I'm one of those people who want to go! I want a good case though.

oh wow, these are so profound. i am very against the death penalty and these are so sad, and yet so kitschy at the same time my brain is so confused. but that's what makes such excellent art, the emotion, the conversation. what an interesting project. i definitely want to learn more about it. as for my last meal, i'd just take one of everything i think.

i have recently gotten over my obsession with watching dateline / 20/20 / 48 hours, but only because i think i have seen them all twice by now.

Add a milkshake to that and I'm totally with you

That's a really tough question. There are so many things that I would want to have just one more time if I knew it was going to be my very last meal. It would probably end up being food from my childhood: BBQ or fried chicken, turnip greens, cornbread or cornbread dressing. Maybe a peanut butter pie for dessert. Comfort food for the long haul.

Wow, these photos are so eerie. It sort of highlights how horrible capital punishment is and how little of a deterrent it actually is against violent crimes (statistics back this theory up). I can't even think of what my last meal would be --too macabre for my brain to process! xo

How interesting. I wonder if they had a hard time choosing what they wanted to eat. I have no idea what I would choose but if I had to, I would probably go with something Italian or Greek:) Have a beautiful day, darling.
